The Circle of Hope Quilt
The Circle of Hope Quilt
is the second quilt the Amazing Quilt Babes have donated to
the Ribbons of Pink Foundation, to be used as a means to promote breast cancer awareness
and fundraise for the Foundation.
The Amazing Quilt Babes envision the circling stars in the quilt like their
circle of friendship. They always wish upon their quilted stars for hope: They hope there
will soon be a cure or a way to prevent breast cancer. They hope that as many women as
possible do breast self-exams each month, and they hope that the quilt helps expose as
many women as possible to information about breast cancer and how it can affect them.
All the fabrics used were from their own stashes. Each star is a different fabric, and
the border prints are different from the stars. There are a total of 178 different blue
fabrics used with a few pinks. The pink is specifically for the Ribbons of Pink
Foundation. The Circle of Hope quilt measures 98" x 108."

The quilt was given away through a donation drawing in December,
2001!
Town Center Plaza "Ribbons of Pink"
Since October of 1999, Town Center Plaza in Leawood, Kansas, hangs specially
designed banners on 110 parking lot light posts in recognition and support of
National Breast Cancer Awareness month.

Ribbons & Racquets is
the premier fundraising event for the Ribbons of
Pink Foundation. It is held annually on a Friday evening in August, and
is comprised of a "Black Tie Optional, Tennis Shoes Required" dinner
and auction, followed by a tennis tournament the next day.
The Kansas Hope Quilt
The "Kansas Hope" quilt was designed and stitched by the Amazing Quilt Babes
to help raise funds for a local breast cancer charity. It is the second quilt made by
the group, the first being called "Star of Hope" for 1999.
"Kansas Hope" was born with thoughts of the future. The yellows in the
background still represent the hope for a brighter future, and the blue stars are
the universe, because breast cancer doesn't stop at any border; the brown and blue
borders of appliquéd sunflowers represent the Babes' Kansas connections.
There are seven appliquéd bees in the border, and fabric with bees inside
the blocks these represent the 7 Amazing Quilt Babes working together.
All the fabric for both the 1999 and 2000 quilts were drawn from the Amazing Quilt
Babes own personal resource centers, and lovingly shared for this project. A stitch
day was given by all seven friends to construct the central pattern, and the borders
were individually appliquéd by four of them. It was machine quilted by one of the
Babes. It took approximately 500 hours of group and individual hours to make
"Kansas Hope."
The Kansas Hope quilt was
given away in a donation drawing during the 2000 holiday season.
The Today's Woman Expo
was held on April 28-29, 2001 at the Overland Park
International Trade Center. The Ribbons of Pink Foundation was selected to
receive a portion of the proceeds from this exciting event!
Several volunteers from the Ribbons of Pink Foundation were present
throughout the Expo and provided breast cancer information. Also, at the
Ribbons of Pink booth, a Registered Nurse was on hand to provide instruction on how
to correctly perform Breast Self Exams.
